The Waynesboro Area YMCA is dedicated to the safety and well-being of our members and program participants.
One way the YMCA creates a safe environment is to close swimming pools during severe weather such as thunder and lightning.
The Redwoods Group, American Red Cross, National Lightning Safety Institute and Y-USA continue to recommend the proactive action of removing swimmers from indoor pools as a lightning storm approaches and until after it passes.
For these reasons, our YMCA aquatic facilities will close when we are aware that lightning is in close proximity and will stay closed until 30 minutes after the last lightning.
Please call the Y (717-762-6012) before you come to swim on days that have the potential for storms.

Due to the national shortage of lifeguards, we may be forced to temporarily modify our lap swim times.

We are accepting applications for lifeguards, starting at $10/hr. Applicants must hold a current lifeguard certification.
