ALAN SMITH DAY AT THE WAYNESBORO AREA YMCA!

Wednesday, July 11th was declared “Alan Smith Day” at the Y! Waynesboro Area YMCA Executive Director Alan Smith (center) is retiring this month after 39 years of service at the YMCA.  Campers, family, staff and members gathered together to for a fun field day and dunk tank! Thank you to all who came to celebrate with us!

Alan started his career in 1979 at the Waynesboro Area YMCA as a program director. Since then, he has held many staff positions at the Y including camp counselor. Alan was officially awarded Camper Emeritus with an official camp t-shirt, hat, whistle and fanny pack, anything a camp counselor would need! He sure is ending his career with a SPLASH!

Alan, the official greeter at the Y, has created a welcoming atmosphere for anyone who enters the doors at the Y. “I love being connected to people and building relationships” said Smith. Known as Mr. Alan, our youngest members are sure to get a high-five and smile every time they see him. Under Smith’s direction, the Y has grown to more than 5,000 members and a $2 million annual budget. Amanda Gietka, the Y’s Associate Director will take over as Executive Director July 31st.
